I am a foreigner;
how do I apply for a Driving License Conversion in Singapore?
Step 1: Take the Basic Theory Test (BTT)
If you already have a driver's licence, the good news is that you won't have to go through the entire process of obtaining a driver's licence all over again. You only need to pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) at one of the driving schools in Singapore to apply for your Singapore driving licence.
You must first register for an account with one of these 3 driving centres in order to schedule your BTT. Except for SSDC, you'll be able to complete this online. To make commuting more convenient, we advise that you pick the location that is most convenient to where you stay.
Bukit Batok Driving Centre
- Address: 815 Bukit Batok West Ave 5, Singapore 659085
- Phone: 1800 666 8888
- Website: https://info.bbdc.sg/
ComfortDelGro Driving Centre
- Address: 205 Ubi Ave 4, Singapore 408805
- Phone: 6841 8900 | 6848 0617
- Website: https://www.cdc.com.sg/
Singapore Safety Driving Centre
- Address: 2 Woodlands Industrial Park E4, Singapore 757387
- Phone: 6482 6060
- Website: https://ssdcl.com.sg/
After you have created your account, you are able to move on to booking your BTT. You have the option of doing this in person or online. The Basic Theory Course (including the BTT, which is standardised across all three schools) costs about $77.95 at BBDC, $86.75 at SSDC, and $92 to $94 at CDC.
If you are unable to attend theory classes at your preferred driving school, you may self-study and only register for the BTT.
Step 2: Apply for conversion
After passing your BTT, proceed to the Traffic Police Headquarters to submit your application for the conversion of your licence. You can either use NETS or CashCard to pay the $50 application fee.
Remember to bring along the following documents:
- Your original passport along with a photocopy of your passport
- Your original valid driving licence along with a photocopy of your licence (if your driving licence is not in English, please bring along your International Driving Permit or an official translation of your driving licence in English)
- One recent passport-sized matte photograph of yourself against a white background.
- Your BTT result slip
Note that driving licences issued in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei Darussalam do not require translation.
